  • Perplexity AI’s new feature will turn your searches into shareable pages - Perplexity Pages allows users to create visually appealing reports, articles, or guides. Both free and paid users can access this feature in the library section by entering a prompt like "Information about Sahara Desert." Users can choose an audience type to tailor the text and add relevant media like images and videos. These pages are publishable, searchable on Google, and shareable with others, who can ask follow-up questions. Users can also convert existing conversation threads into pages with one click.

  • ChatGPT is Opening Up Custom GPTs To Free Users - OpenAI has started opening up more features to free users over the past few weeks. GPT-4o is available to both free and paid users, and now, ChatGPT is making some formerly premium features available to free users as well, most notably with access to the pre-trained custom GPTs. OpenAI has done this in line with its “mission to make AI technology accessible to all”.

  • Star Trek's Holodeck recreated using ChatGPT and video game assets - Star Trek's Holodeck is becoming a reality. Engineers at the University of Pennsylvania have developed an AI tool that creates 3D environments from everyday language. Additionally, Midjourney's CEO, David Holz, has hinted that the company is working on a real-time open-world Holodeck, targeting a 2024 launch.

  • Amazon is rolling out AI voice search to Fire TV devices - Amazon is rolling out an AI-powered search feature to Fire TV that would enable Alexa to answer open-ended questions about TV shows and movies, and deliver more specific recommendations tailored to users’ preferences. The AI understands natural language and phrases, and can answer specific queries like, “What movie has the line ‘Life is like a box of chocolates?’” It can also pull up options based on the actors, characters, genres and topics. The new feature will be available in a few weeks to customers in the U.S. with Fire TV devices running Fire OS 6 or later.

  • Mistral releases Codestral, its first generative AI model for code - Codestral is a code-generating model designed to assist developers with writing and interacting with code in over 80 languages, including Python, Java, C++, and JavaScript. It can complete coding functions, write tests, fill in partial code, and answer questions about a codebase in English. Despite being described as “open,” Codestral’s license prohibits commercial use and restricts internal usage within companies, likely due to its training on copyrighted content.

  • Tech giants form an industry group to help develop next-gen AI chip components - Intel, Google, Microsoft, Meta, and other tech giants are forming the Ultra Accelerator Link (UALink) Promoter Group to develop standards for connecting AI accelerator chips in data centers. This group aims to create a new industry standard for linking these chips, which include GPUs and custom solutions for AI model training and running. The first UALink products are expected to launch in a few years. Notably absent is Nvidia, the leading AI accelerator producer, which prefers its proprietary interconnect technology and likely won't support rival specs.

  • Exactly.ai secures $4M to help artists use AI to scale up their output - Exactly.ai says it uses generative AI to help artists retain legal ownership of their art and gives them the ability to reproduce their designs much faster and at scale. “We enable artists, people who can draw, and illustrators to train their own AI on their artwork. They then get an algorithm that can generate images in their own style. This algorithm belongs to them and all the inferences belong to them.”

  • AI Could Cure Healthcare Sector’s $500 Billion Administrative Problem - The hospital billing process is notoriously convoluted and costly and has been for years. The potential of AI in healthcare administration extends beyond mere efficiency. The technology’s ability to process and analyze vast amounts of data can identify discrepancies that might otherwise go unnoticed, ensuring hospitals receive appropriate compensation for the services rendered.

  • Anthropic brings Tool Use for Claude out of beta, promising sophisticated assistants - Tool Use for Claude, which is designed "to automate tasks, personalize recommendations, and streamline data analysis by integrating AI with external tools and services." Today's announcement takes Tool Use out of beta and available through Anthropic's own Anthropic Messages API, the Amazon Bedrock service, and Google's Vertex AI.

  • AI manufacturing startup funding is on a tear as Switzerland’s EthonAI raises $16.5M - Founded in Zurich in 2021, EthonAI uses AI to detect manufacturing defects. Their Inspector software identifies surface flaws using images of defect-free products. EthonAI also analyzes data across manufacturing setups to improve performance, with clients like Siemens and Lindt. In semiconductor manufacturing, they help a leading producer enhance yield rates by merging multiple datasets. CEO Julian Senoner stresses AI's role in driving operational excellence in manufacturing.

  • Women in AI: Miriam Vogel stresses the need for responsible AI - Miriam Vogel is the CEO of EqualAI, a nonprofit aimed at reducing unconscious bias in AI and promoting responsible AI governance. She chairs the National AI Advisory Committee, advising President Joe Biden on AI policy, and teaches technology law at Georgetown University. Previously, Vogel was an associate deputy attorney general at the Justice Department. She is also a board member at the Responsible AI Institute and senior advisor to the Center for Democracy and Technology, advising on various policy issues including criminal justice.

  • Dell Escapes Nvidia’s Shadow as Its Own AI Tailwinds Accelerate - Dell recently generated excitement by unveiling a line of PCs optimized for AI. At the same time, its high-powered servers have been endorsed by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who praised his company’s “great partnership” with Dell at its GTC conference and said that “nobody is better at building end-to-end systems of very large scale for the enterprise than Dell.”

  • AI startup Wallaroo tapped to help Space Force operationalize machine learning - Wallaroo.AI, a New York-based company, is targeting the military market and has been selected for the U.S. Space Force’s TAP Lab accelerator program. The program focuses on commercial technologies for space domain awareness. Wallaroo will prototype an AI platform to help Space Force teams quickly deploy machine learning models using unclassified data. COO Stephen Spellicy emphasized that data scientists only need to create models and select deployment locations.

  • OpenAI says its tools were used in foreign influence campaigns - OpenAI said in a new report that it has seen its tools used by several existing foreign influence operations, including efforts based in Russia, China, Iran and Israel. All of the attacks it noticed were rated low in severity because they didn't show signs of spreading organically on their own.

  • Lenovo and Cisco Announce Strategic Partnership to Simplify Path to AI Innovation - The two companies agree to design, engineer and deliver deeply integrated solutions that advance generative AI capabilities and digital workplace solutions to boost enterprise productivity. Partnership includes go-to-market initiatives for delivering complete digital workplace, cloud networking, hybrid AI infrastructure solutions, and Lenovo managed services to customers globally.

  • C3.ai Stock Surges On Fiscal 2025 Revenue Outlook, Earnings Beat - C3.ai has told analysts it expects revenue growth to reaccelerate as more AI pilot projects ramp up into commercial production. Full-year fiscal 2025 guidance for C3.ai stock came in above expectations amid strength in its federal government business.
