Today’s Headlines:

  • OpenAI Sora’s biggest rival is here: Chinese AI model Kling creates videos with more accuracy - Reportedly, Kling uses a technology similar to Sora and can produce 1080p high-definition videos that can last up to two minutes. The model can create large-scale realistic motions which essentially simulate physical world characteristics. Sora is only able to generate up to 1 minute videos. It's available on the KWAI iOS app with a Chinese phone number. Watch the video examples here and here.

  • Apple’s generative AI offering might not work with the standard iPhone 15 - Apple Intelligence, maintaining the AI initials, will be available as an opt-in beta like developer OS updates post-WWDC. It will be compatible with upcoming iPhone, iPad, and Mac versions, including older devices with an M1 chip or higher and the iPhone 15 Pro, but not the standard iPhone 15. Initially, Apple Intelligence will enhance existing applications, such as summarizing Safari pages and notifications. Siri will also get a 2024 update with expanded capabilities like voice-activated photo editing. Apple's AI focus aims to make its operating system more intuitive and user-friendly.

  • Ashton Kutcher Is Getting Dragged For His Comments About Making Whole Movies With AI - Ashton Kutcher praised OpenAI's generative video tool Sora, highlighting its potential to revolutionize film production by creating realistic footage and reducing costs. He suggested that AI could replace traditional filming techniques, allowing creatives to generate entire movies. However, his comments sparked backlash from industry professionals like Caitie Delaney, who argued that such advancements could harm collaborative creativity and jobs. Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos later countered fears about AI, emphasizing its role as a tool to enhance, not replace, human creativity in filmmaking.

  • 'Top Gun' producer says he doesn't believe claims AI will replace key jobs - "We’e certainly not going to replace actors. You’re never going to replace the key crew members that we work with. (They’re) always going to be there," Jerry Bruckheimer said. "There are tons of people who are using AI, but they can’t admit it publicly because you still need artists for a lot of work. And they’re going to turn against you. Right now, it’s a PR problem more than a tech problem." said David Stripinis, a VFX professional.

  • WhatsApp Adds AI Tools for Businesses - The tools enable businesses to use AI to answer questions commonly asked by shoppers, to create ads to run on the Meta-owned platforms Instagram or Facebook, and to follow up with customers to remind them that they left an item in their cart or to offer them a discount on a purchase they have been considering.

  • Jasper AI released Flash Diffusion - Jasper AI releases Flash Diffusion, an efficient, fast, and versatile distillation method to accelerate the generation of pre-trained diffusion models. The versatility of the method is also exposed across several tasks such as text-to-image, inpainting, face-swapping, super-resolution and using different backbones such as UNet-based denoisers (SD1.5, SDXL) or DiT (Pixart-α), as well as adapters.

  • A social app for creatives, Cara grew from 40k to 650k users in a week because artists are fed up with Meta’s AI policies - Artists have finally had enough with Meta’s predatory AI policies. An artist-run, anti-AI social platform, Cara has grown from 40,000 to 650,000 users within the last week, catapulting it to the top of the App Store charts. Instagram is a necessity for many artists, who use the platform to promote their work and solicit paying clients. But Meta is using public posts to train its generative AI systems, and only European users can opt out, since they’re protected by GDPR laws.

  • Adobe users are outraged over vague new policy's AI implications - Is AI peeking at your works in progress? Changes to Adobe's Terms of Service have users confused and outraged that their work — even unpublished and in-progress projects — may be used to train AI models. Adobe has issued a statement clarifying that it does not train its Firefly generative AI models on user content and that it "will never assume ownership of a customer's work." You can read more about the statement here.

  • AI apps on Google Play have to limit distribution of inappropriate content, company says - New Google Play guidelines are putting the cuffs on generative AI apps offering dubious tools, such as deepfake "undressing" apps and those producing graphic content. The updated app store policy instructs generative AI apps and their developers to build-in precautions against offensive content, "including prohibited content listed under Google Play’s Inappropriate Content policies, content that may exploit or abuse children, and content that can deceive users or enable dishonest behaviors."

  • AI-driven crypto crime is only just beginning - Elliptic’s 2024 report exposes how AI is increasingly used for sophisticated crypto crimes, from deepfake scams to state-sponsored cyberattacks, signaling that these threats are just beginning. The report revealed that deepfake videos featuring Elon Musk and former Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong are being used to promote fraudulent investment schemes.

  • Treasury Seeks Comments on ‘Responsible Innovation’ Using AI in Financial Services - The request for information encompasses “uses, opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence in the financial services sector.” The agency aims to learn how AI is being used in the sector, what opportunities and risks it presents, what obstacles are slowing the responsible use of AI, and what enhancements can be made to legislative, regulatory and supervisory frameworks, according to the release.

  • ‘Apple Intelligence’ will automatically choose between on-device and cloud-powered AI - Apple is gearing up to reveal a new AI system on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac next week at WWDC 2024 — and it will be called Apple Intelligence. Apple’s AI features for its apps will focus on ‘broad appeal’ and privacy, while leaving the chatbots to others like OpenAI.

  • Google makes its note-taking AI NotebookLM more useful - Google launched its note-taking app NotebookLM last year for researchers, students, and anyone who needs to organize the information they’ve gathered. Now, users can now upload Google Slides and web URLs as sources, not just the Google Docs, PDFs, and text files it accepted previously. Users can also now ask questions about charts, images, and diagrams they uploaded to the platform because NotebookLM is running on Google’s Gemini 1.5 Pro.

  • The AI revolution is hotter than ever — but investors should be realistic about its timeline - Investors are once again piling into the artificial intelligence trade — but those looking for a fast return should think twice. “There has to be a valid business case … to justify the cost of AI investments. There's a little bit of a disconnect between those two right now,” Ramaswami said. “There are good use cases. I'm not suggesting there aren't good use cases. ... We just need to make sure they're economically viable,” Ramaswami added.

  • Google’s AI Overview Search Results Copied My Original Work - Google’s AI feature bumped my article down on the results page, but the new AI Overview at the top still referenced it. Without the AI Overviews enabled, my article was often the featured snippet highlighted at the top of Google search results. A Google spokesperson acknowledged that the AI-generated summaries may use portions of writing directly from web pages, but they defended AI Overviews as conspicuously referencing back to the original sources.

Fanvue World AI Creator Awards - Miss AI

We are excited to present an exclusive feature on the inaugural Fanvue World AI Creator Awards and the announcement of the Top 10 shortlist for the first-ever award - Miss AI - which garnered global attention back in April.

Fanvue World AI Creator Awards (WAICA) is a pioneering global awards program dedicated to recognizing the achievements of AI creators worldwide. The first installment, Miss AI, merges traditional beauty pageantry with the innovative world of AI creators. Contestants are judged on beauty, technological skill, and social clout, competing for the prestigious Miss AI crown. Fanvue, the only subscription platform combining AI content with AI messaging, voice notes, and analytics to boost earnings 24/7, proudly partners with WAICA.

What is Miss AI?

Miss AI is the world's first beauty pageant for AI-generated models, launched by Fanvue nearly 200 years after the first beauty pageant. It celebrates the technical skill and work behind digital influencer personas globally. The competition is part of the broader World AI Creator Awards (WAICAs), which aim to celebrate creators at the forefront of AI innovation.

A staggering 1,500 AI creators from around the world, including the US, Africa, South America, India, Japan, South Korea, and Europe, entered the awards. These awards have uncovered inspiring AI creators from all corners of the globe!

The esteemed judging panel, comprised of Aitana Lopez, Emily Pellegrini, pageantry historian Sally Ann Fawcett, and Marketing and PR guru Andrew Bloch, assessed the contestants based on realism, technological prowess, and social influence.

The top three Miss AI contestants will win prizes totaling over $20,000, including a $5,000 cash prize for the winner, AI mentorship programs, PR services, and more, courtesy of WAICA partner, Fanvue.

Judging Criteria:

  • Beauty: Judged on classic pageantry aspects, including beauty, poise, and unique responses to questions like "If you could have one dream to make the world a better place, what would it be?"

  • Tech: Points awarded for skill and implementation of AI tools, including prompt usage and visual detailing around hands, eyes, and backgrounds.

  • Social Clout: Assessed based on engagement numbers, audience growth rate, and platform utilization such as Instagram.

Will Monange, Fanvue Co-Founder:

"The launch of the Fanvue World AI Creator Awards has brought the AI Creator space into the mainstream. The number of entries has been staggering, and the standard of the shortlist is incredible. The awards have uncovered creators with compelling backstories and talented creators behind them. This new form of pageantry enables creative people to enter the creator economy with their AI-generated creations."

A Spokesperson for the World AI Creator Awards:

“The AI Creator economy has seen exponential growth in the past 12 months. The introduction of the WAICAs is a golden opportunity to celebrate the best of the industry and raise overall standards for creators. This is just the beginning, and plans are already underway for the next award under the Fanvue World AI Creator Awards programme.”

Over the next few days, we will be showcasing each of the Top 10 creators, highlighting their unique talents and contributions to the AI creator community. Stay tuned as we dive into their inspiring stories and groundbreaking work that earned them a spot on the prestigious Miss AI shortlist.
