  • Everything happening at Google’s I/O developer conference 2024 - Get ready for a whole lot of AI news coming out of Google’s developer-focused I/O conference. The company is showing off key products like its flagship Gemini AI model at the event and presenting updates to its smaller and open-sourced “Gemma” AI products.   • Meet Veo, Google's most advanced text-to-video generator, unveiled at Google I/O 2024 - Google revealed Veo, its most advanced text-to-video generator, capable of generating videos with 1080p resolution that are over one minute long. OpenAI's Sora gets some serious competition. While Veo is still in preview, here's how to give the model a try for yourself.

  • Google Search gets biggest overhaul in years with new generative AI features - The announcement, as part of Google’s I/O developer conference, brings a new look to Search via its AI Overview. The feature provides a brief, AI-generated answer to searches, coupled with a series of links to the sources cited in the response. The company says you'll be able to search for a yoga or Pilates studio in Boston that offers discounts to new members and how far it is from Beacon Hill, and Search will provide an answer without you having to perform multiple searches. The company will roll out its generative AI updates to US users beginning today.

  • Meta Explores AI-Assisted Earphones With Cameras - Meta expects the device, being explored under a project named "Camerabuds", to identify objects and translate foreign languages, the report added.

  • OpenAI rival Anthropic launches chatbot Claude in Europe to give users more choice - “Claude has a number of specific features that uphold EU values and caters for the EU market; we designed Claude to avoid biases, discrimination, and hate speech; focused on reliable, steerable, and accessible AI for all. Instead of using humans to identify harmful output, it uses a method that can be trained to moderate itself by using a core set of principles, called Constitutional AI.

  • Microsoft announces the largest investment to date in France to accelerate the adoption of AI, skilling and innovation - “This major investment demonstrates a steadfast commitment to supporting digital innovation and economic growth in France,” said Vice Chair & President of Microsoft Brad Smith. “We are building state-of-the-art Cloud and AI infrastructure, training people with AI skills, and supporting French startups as they use our technology with confidence to grow in a fair and responsible way.”

  • David Sacks reveals Glue, the AI company he’s been teasing on his All In podcast - Glue, an employee chat app that they say will fix what they call “Slack channel fatigue.” Glue, which emerged from stealth on Tuesday, is designed around topic-based threads and uses GenAI. In many ways, Glue’s interface looks similar to Slack’s, but everything a user sees on their screen is intended specifically for them. “You can create a thread for a specific short task,” said Owen, Glue’s co-founder and CEO. “It’s an ephemeral conversation, and when you’re done with it, it can go away.”

  • Women in AI: Rachel Coldicutt researches how technology impacts society - Rachel Coldicutt is the founder of Careful Industries, which researches the social impact technology has on society. Clients have included Salesforce and the Royal Academy of Engineering. Before Careful Industries, Coldicutt was CEO at the think tank Doteveryone, which also conducted research into how technology was impacting society. Before Doteveryone, she spent decades working in digital strategy for companies like the BBC and the Royal Opera House. She attended the University of Cambridge and received an OBE (Order of the British Empire) honor for her work in digital technology.

  • Report: AI Will Take Up 10% of Big Tech IT Budgets - As the report notes, it’s a dramatic jump in AI spending, which last year accounted for under 1% of IT spending. “Assuming the infrastructure gets built, companies would have access to more advanced AI capabilities,” tech analyst Vaclav Vincalek told PYMNTS. “For example, more sophisticated machine learning algorithms can help analyze larger and larger datasets in shorter time frames. Or improved natural language processing to actually better serve customers with AI.”

  • Stanford's VR breakthrough could spell the end of clunky headsets - Stanford is redefining AR with glasses that combine metasurface waveguides and AI-driven holography, offering a revolutionary way to experience digital and real-world integration. Here's what it all means.

  • Google’s 3D video calling is coming in 2025 but who’s it for? We’ve all experienced that awkward lag, difficulty in reading body language, and that nagging feeling of disconnect with traditional video calls. Create Memory Shortcuts in ChatGPT: A lesser-known feature of ChatGPT’s new Memory feature is that it can be programmed to store shortcuts, which can save you a lot of time in chat conversations when used effectively.

Step-by-step:

  • Go to ChatGPT’s website. You’ll need to have a Plus subscription to access Memory.

  • Click on your account name (bottom-left), select ‘Settings’, ‘Personalization’, and enable ‘Memory’.

  • Teach ChatGPT a list of shortcuts by adding: “Store in your memory that when I start a prompt using: ‘!si’ means that I want you to search on the Internet; ‘!ci’ means that I want you to create an image; and !da’ means that I want you to use your Advanced Data Analysis feature”
