(NEW YORK, NY) -- The New York Times gave readers a sneak peak at "The New Devil in Miss Jones" on Sunday with an "Arts & Leisure" article headlined: "The Devil is Still in."
Writer Mireya Navarro interviewed Vivid director Paul Thomas and Vivid Girl Savanna Samson, who stars as Miss Jones in the remake, as well as Georgina Spelvin, the star of the original 1973 Gerard Damiano film who has a cameo role in the remake.
Samson is quoted as saying that when she first looked at the original she "fast forwarded a lot." Thomas told Navarro he understood why because "The aesthetics of such films had changed over the last 30 years, and not entirely for the better. 'If the original came out today, I think the sex would have been found lacking.'" said Mr. Thomas.
The article goes on to say that "Vivid Entertainment is betting that a story - along with a famous title, a contemporary dosage of sex scenes and the presence of the pornography superstar Jenna Jameson as the Devil - will sell DVDs of the first remake of 'The Devil in Miss Jones,' which it will release on Sept. 21." Marketing plans call for simultaneous release in the United States and Europe (in five languages), a billboard in Times Square and a release party in New York City.
Navarro also interviewed Vivid co-founder and co-chairman Steven Hirsch, who said "he expected to sell more than 100,000 copies of the new version domestically in the first year, or 10 times more than the average Vivid film. 'It's a name that everybody knows,' Mr. Hirsch said. 'It's a compelling story. The story is updated, but it still pays homage to the original.'"
