Kayla's Korner: New Breed of Women in Adult Industry

Where has the time gone? Is it really almost November already?! I realize it has been a while since I added my two cents worth to AINews, but (like any other good whore) I have been working my ass off filming scenes all summer!
While on sets, I have met a lot of interesting industry people and one recurrent theme became apparent: There is a new breed of "Female Talent" out there! Non-industry people may have to rethink their definition of adult film actress! I am talking, of course, about the business-savvy woman who is as comfortable behind the scenes as she is in front of the camera. Before I started in the film arena of this biz, I heard stories of flakey, drugged up 'meat-puppets' who showed up for whatever the man in their life (aka Suitcase Pimp) booked for them and blew their money as fast as they blew the cocks on the sets. Have I found that? yes, I have seen a few, but that is not the norm but the anamoly.
What I have been finding instead, are smart women who are totally in control of their careers and who are looking to the future and the days when they are no longer in scenes. This is a far cry from the weak-willed women I was expecting to find on set!
Women like Pamela Peaks, Crystal White, Brittany Andrews and Elizabeth Starr are proving that there is life after the camera stops rolling. While Pamela, Crystal and Brittany still film they have also started their own companies. As a matter of fact, most of these four women own more than one company. Branching out from film work, these women have started websites, distribution companies, talent agencies and production companies. I feel that I must stress this one fact: None of these companies belong to these women in name only. Each one has her hand in every aspect of her business, each one actually runs her business.
Not only are these women highly skilled in turning sex into a profit, they give "new-comers" like myself a role-model. I honestly hope to see this trend continue. It was a refreshing surprise, considering the stories I was fed before setting foot on a porn set. In the meantime, I am keeping my eyes and ears open and learning as much as I can from these pioneers!
Watch out mainstream America! You might have to rethink your notion of our industry. While "The Girl Next Door" was an entertaining movie, it was *not* a true reflection of the collective mass of us and these girls are out to Prove it!
