Sex Workers' Art Show Tour
Source: Sex Workers' Art Show
by: Company Press Release

The Sex Workers' Art Show is now accepting submissions for our third annual national tour! Artists and performers needed for the Sex Workers' Art Show Tour.

The Show: The sex Workers' Art Show is an eye-popping evening of visual and performance art created by people who work in the sex industry to dispel the myth that we are anything short of artists, innovators, and geniuses!

The cabaret-style event includes music, spoken word, dance, and all other imaginable performance art; it also includes a small visual art display that travels with the tour. The artwork and performances offer a wide range of perspectives on sex work. The show hopes through its diversity of viewpoints to move beyond "positive" and "negative" into a fuller portrayal of the complicated ways sex workers experience our jobs and our lives. This is the show's third national trek, after five years of producing the show in Olympia, Washington. We have been well received by audiences across the country. The lineup has historically been a mix of well-known (alumni include Annie Sprinkle, Carol Queen, Scarlot Harlot, Michelle Tea, Margo St. James, Ducky Doolittle), and unknown artists. For more info, visit SexWorkersArtShow.com.

The Deal: This year's tour is happening mid-Feb. 2005 thru mid-March 2005. We'll be starting in Portland, going down the west coast, across the south, and up the east coast. Venues will be varied, from small bars and clubs to large theaters to college campuses. We'll be traveling in two new vans, and staying mostly in hotels with a handful of stays at peoples' homes. There will be eight performers, a technical director, and road crew along. It's a low-budget deal; pay will be a guaranteed $2000/performer for the whole tour; plus hotels, transportation to the first show and home from the last, and occasional meals. We will also provide staff to sell your books, CDs buttons, whatever.

This Sounds Rad! How Can I Submit Work? People of all genders from all areas of the sex industry are invited to submit any kind of visual and performance art, including Short film or video. Work must be in some way sex work-themed. If want to do spoken word, please send a Complete version of everything you would like to perform. You may also submit video or DVD of your performance. Performances should be no more than 15 minutes long. Visual artists should email photos in jpeg format. Please send a brief bio that includes length of time and areas of the sex industry you've worked in. Work must be submitted by October 15th.

Email all inquiries to Info@SexWorkersArtShow.com.
