Woman in Summit escort case is shot in vagina

(AKRON, OH) -- Police are investigating two separate shootings in South Akron that happened within two hours of each other -- one involving a convicted prostitute tied to the Summit County escort case.
A man was shot in the chest about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday near Cole Avenue, but he was not seriously injured, and was treated and released from the hospital.
The second shooting was more serious and involved a woman found naked in a parking lot about 1:15 a.m. yesterday who had been shot in the vagina.
Barbara Tepus, the woman who was shot, was one of more than 60 people charged during a county investigation into two escort agencies that were allegedly operating as fronts for prostitution.
Tepus pleaded guilty to prostitution in May and was sentenced to 60 days, but then she was credited for time she had already served. Police do not think the two shootings are related, though they happened in proximity of each other, said Lt. Harold Craig, who heads up the crimes against persons unit.
No arrests have yet been made in either shooting.
