Unless you've been very, very careful, if you view online porn then you've left electronic footprints that can be viewed by your spouse, kids, Internet service provider, the Government and online marketers. "Welcome to the Information Age," says reporter Jack Morrison in the January '04 issue of AVN OnLine magazine. Morrison outlines a number of steps you can take to limit the possibility that porn consumption can be viewed by virtually anybody on the Web. The first step toward security is never, ever to use your computer at work to view porn. "Stop. Now. You're putting your job, career, and reputation at risk. Workplaces have more than a dozen ways to ferret out employees to view porn," says Morrison. As for your home computer, the AVN Online reporter says, "In order to surf anonymously, you'll need an upgrade to your browser that hides the address of the Websites that you visit and encrypts the data that flows from the porn site to your PC." the most popular product is called Anonymizer. He also advises installation of a firewall on your home computer and frequently clearing out your "history," "cookies" and "temporary Internet files" caches. (Page 188)
Look for Rise in for Obscenity Prosecutions in 2004
Producers and distributors of adult-content on the Internet are likely to come under intense election-year fueled attacks from Attorney General John Ashcroft and the Bush Administration, according to an attorney who defends adult industry clients.
In a state-of-the industry article in the January 2004 issue of AVN Online magazine Attorney Eric M. Bernstein predicts that "this year is going to be worse in the way of obscenity prosecution than it has ever been. We're gong to see more very public, major prosecutions of adult Web operators. Remember: For [President George W.] Bush and Ashcroft, it's an election year."
In the end, Bernstein says, this may not be a bad thing for the adult industry as it is likely to halt some operators that are making it difficult for legitimate adult sites to prosper: "Federal prosecutions will weed out the 'problem children."
Stephen Yagielowicz, the editor-in-chief of Adult Webmaster and Xbiz agrees with Bernstein, telling AVN Online: "You're gonna have the real bad guys and the real good guys. There's not gonna be very much gray." (Page 148)
Coming To a Website Near you - the Newest Porno
One trend that is sweeping the adult Internet is the proliferation of Websites devoted to a specific porn movie or video, according to adult news and Webmaster magazine AVN Online. Reporter Frank Majors says the porn production companies have increasingly turned to the Web, creating content-rich sites to promote their higher profile titles, signifying a new age in online marketing and promotion for adult productions. Typical of the new breed is John Chambliss, president of Simon Wolf Organization and formerly with UA and Columbia Pictures. The Wolf Organization's Naughty Bedtime Stores 2 Website offers at no charge a high resolution photos of the box cover, behind the scenes pictures and a video trailer of the movie. Similar sites promote films from Private North America like "The Scottish Loveknot" and Wicked Pictures Space Nuts, which is "loaded with a galaxy of content." the movie promotion Websites are often loaded with exclusive extras, such as the promotion for a new Carmen Luvana western porn film from RawhideXXX.com that "puts all he information together to let someone see what it's all about before buying it.a preview, the story, pictures, trailers and everything."
