(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) -- Sure, why not? New Internet-at-home survey released May 9 shows how far Internet users will go ... to be online.
According to a new pogo.com survey, Internet users say the Web is literally changing the way they live.
Sleep is optional
* Sleep: To get more time on the Internet, 20% would give up some of their time they spend sleeping!
Meals are optional
* Meals: To get more time on the Internet, 7% would be willing to miss occasional MEALS.
Friends and Family?
Pogo.com and Greenfield Online asked the question: are you spending less time with family - or less time socially with friends - as a result of the time you spend online?
* 22% said: Yes, they spend less time with family and friends due to the Internet.
Surprisingly, 25% of older people (55+) said they were spending less time with family and friends; 19% of younger people (under 25) said the Internet was affecting their relationships.
Internet Addiction? Is this turning into a problem?
* 42% of women said they ``eagerly awaited'' the next time they would be online
* 33% of men felt likewise.
Age is a factor. 48% of older (age 55+) online Americans eagerly awaited their next Internet session.
Trying to break the habit?
* 18% said they were having difficulty cutting back on the hours they spend online.
* Highest in the West: 22% said they found it difficult to cut back on Internet time in their lives.
The hours go by ... longer and longer Internet sessions
Average time spent on the Internet is getting longer for users.
* 22% replied that their Internet sessions were lasting longer and longer.
Compulsive Spending on the Internet?
8% of surfers say that the ease of shopping on the Internet with credit cards causes them to compulsively shop and spend too much of their income.
Age is a factor: 12% of younger surfers (under 25) compared with 4% of older surfers (55+) say they spend compulsively on the Internet.
10% of Easterners say the Internet makes spending money too easy.
Looking for sex on the Internet?
Men are 4 times as likely (8%) as women (2%) to spend increasing amounts of time online looking for pornography or other types of sexual content.
Western surfers are twice as likely (7%) as Easterners (3%) to increase their time surfing for porn.
Surfers with low household incomes (under 35K) are eight times as likely to spend more and more time, online, surfing for porn compared to households with an income of $100K and over.
3% of married surfers (compared to 8% of single surfers) are spending more and more time looking for porn.
