(BARCELONA, SPAIN) -- Private Media Group Inc. (Nasdaq: PRVT) a worldwide leader in premium-quality adult entertainment products, services, digital content and media, today announced the launch of a new Private service that uses the Mobile Internet (WAP and GPRS) to deliver and sell Private branded adult content to millions of mobile phone users worldwide.
Consumers will have the opportunity to pay to receive adult content over WAP and GPRS enabled mobile phones through a simple mechanism with direct charging to their mobile phone bill. Private's most popular content will be featured and regularly updated on the new Portal, which offers high quality photographs, video and accompanying text. Private is offering the service using the technology from Bango.net, a UK-based company that enables paid-for content on any mobile device, across all major networks. The service will initially be launched in the United Kingdom in July, with other countries to be added in the near future.
Charles Prast, President and CEO of Private Media Group, commented: "There has been a tremendous amount of publicity in the UK over the past months highlighting new mobile devices capable of receiving video content. Initial reports indicate that these phones have been a commercial success. Private's entry into this marketplace as a branded content provider offers a complementary alternative to many of the popular mainstream photo and video services currently available. In a previously SMS text message dominated marketplace, we are now pleased to leverage Private's core strength as a content brand to offer consumers a more colourful and exciting experience on their mobile phones."
"With the massive uptake in usage of colour WAP and GPRS enabled mobile phones, we believe the consumer market for subscribed wireless adult media has enormous potential right now. In addition, this follows Private's profitable strategy of content delivery through revenue sharing agreements and relationships with trusted billing partners, eliminating the need for credit card information or the disclosure of other personal information." said Mr. Prast.
A report from the IT research company Visiongain forecasts that profits from adult content transmitted to mobile phones will reach an annual $4 billion by 2006, out of a total annual adult market of $70 billion.
