Doug Stanhope and Chloe to Host AVN Awards

(CHATSWORTH, CA) -- Maverick television comedian Doug Stanhope will team with legendary adult star and director Chloe to host the 20th annual AVN Awards show at the Venetian in Las Vegas January 11 2003, which Entertainment Weekly called the awards show "The Oscars of Adult."
Chloe, known to fans by just her first name, has been a porn star favorite since she broke into the business in 1997. With her trademark wild auburn hair and piercing hazel eyes she is currently a contract performer for adult entertainment company VCA
The firebrand Stanhope, who was named this year as one of the Top Ten Comics To Watch by both Variety and the Hollywood Reporter, will emcee program in which stars, directors and studios are honored for their outstanding performances in the previous year .
"Sharp, off color, and howlingly funny," was the conclusion of the San Francisco Chronicle reviewer who saw one of his shows. The Reno Gazette Journal reported that "Stanhope breaks down the walls of decency. He uses profanity, but nothing he says is meant to shock. Everything he says is designed to make the audience laugh."
Stanhope has been featured on "Comedy Central Presents", "Premium Blend," NBC's "Late Friday" as well as "The Howard Stern Show" and "SpyTV." He also wrote, produced and starred in Fox's "Invasion of the Hidden Cameras," which aired in the summer of 2002. The latest of his three CDs, "Die Laughing," released in March of 2002, stirred controversy with his opinions on abortion, school shootings and Jesus. His earlier CDs, "Sicko" and "Something to Take the Edge Off" contained autobiographical stories about drugs, prostitution and other tales of life from a road less traveled.
Stanhope was called "one of the most twisted individuals I've ever met" by a reviewer for the Austin Chronicle, who added, "But that's part of his charm." He has appeared at all the major comedy festivals including Montreal Just for Laughs (1997), Aspen Us Comedy Arts (1996, 2002), Chicago Comedy Festival (1998, 2000, 2002) and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland (2002).
Her fellow adult performers at the AVN Awards show know that Chloe's own on-screen sexual performances are wrought with emotion. One critic wrote, "she seems to be performing a live sex show in a parallel universe where only she knows what's going on." Chloe has acknowledged that she is "totally into the sex and I do it simply for the pure pleasure of getting off." She says she wants fans who "watch me make love take it very personally, getting an almost guilty pleasure from my films."
