Avalon Takes Stab at Babes Illustrated & More Than a Handful

(CHATSWORTH, CA) -- Though his name is synonymous with erotic and lavish features boasting overblown budgets, Metro Interactive's award-winning contract director James Avalon is about to take the plunge into modestly budgeted semi-ambitious feature-making with his first stint on two popular Metro vignette features, More Than a Handful and Babes Illustrated!
"It's going to be a fun experiment," Avalon says. "There's no pressure, so we're just going to make it fun, and make the sex as hot and lively as I can. That's what the focus is."
More Than a Handful 12 - featuring Avy Scott, Brittany Skye and Mary Carey - features a plot that most of the porn employed know all too well. When everything falls apart on Avalon's fictitious set - the location falls through and the budget isn't approved, among other things - he's forced to scramble to bring the production together to meet a deadline.
"Everything that can go wrong is going wrong, and I'm not shooting nearly what we were planning," Avalon explains. "But we still have the sex."
Babes Illustrated 13 - which includes Ann Marie, Felix Vicious, Buffy Sinclair and Gen Padova among others - will follow a looser storyline surrounding a photo shoot with some behind-the-scenes-style action.
Despite the change of pace, Avalon is looking forward to working on these titles.
"It's different," he says. "I don't think it's better or worse than working on features. I think I'll have a lot more fun shooting these, and you never know how they're going to turn out. It's basically the same approach that we took with Dream Love and Erotic Visions, and I thought they turned out pretty well."
Director Mike Quasar, who usually helms these titles, chuckles when asked how he feels about Avalon stepping into his shoes.
"It's about time multi-AVN award-winning master of erotica James Avalon experiences a shred of humility," he says. "Let's see how well he does working with my budget! The last Babes Illustrated cost less to make than the craft services bill on Les Vampyres 2!"
Babes Illustrated 13 and More Than a Handful 12 are slated for a Spring 2003 release.
