Inside the Porn World - From the Trenches
by: Dave Cummings
Written primarily for the viewers and fans of adult films, copies of this monthly column are also made available to a few other select publications and web sites; my monthly columns initially were written for the members of my DaveCummings.com web site, who indicated that they would enjoy hearing about happenings from an "insider".
Admittedly, I am not a writer by any stretch of anyoneís imagination, including mine; indeed, I am totally inept at even writing a grammatically correct or interesting letter to my Mom! So, please be understanding and put up with my admitted personal shortcomings here. Thanks!
This month had some significant events and sex-filled shoots. The annual lobbying effort at the California Legislature brought out adult stars Danni Ashe, Sydnee Steele, Nina Hartley, Julie Meadows, Mike Horner, Tal the Bard, and over 30 other VIPs representing the Free Speech Coalition. The initial day was filled with update briefings, training, and practical exercises designed to sharpen our lobbying skills, as well as an evening cocktail party attended by many Legislators and their staff. Having been involved in almost all of the previous lobbying events, Iíve noticed a constantly growing acceptance and appreciation of our presence at the Capital; indeed, many legislators and their staffs now lobby us to schedule their offices on our list of meetings/visits. After the next morningís press Conference outside the Capital Building, nine teams of four people each paid scheduled visits to Legislatorís offices. I was blessed with being on the same team as Julie Meadows and two outstanding and gifted managers of major San Diego gentlemenís clubs associated with the Déjà Vu organization; I lucked out, as these three All-American people impressed Legislators and/or their staffs as intelligent, knowledgeable, personable, and involved citizens and voters.
We feel that our team did a good job of pointing out the positive aspects of our Industry, and we received positive feedback, appreciation, and respect from the offices we visited. Amazingly, even when some Legislators were tied up in committee hearings, they would rush back to their offices to greet us and let us know that they valued our presence and the information we always provide them via the annual FSC White Paper, then they scurried back to their committee hearing; unlike the earlier years of our lobbying efforts, I sense that many Legislators now view us as expert representatives of the views of many of their constituents who are consumers of adult entertainment. Interestingly, throughout the Capital, we were often asked for autographs and/or had "fans" come up to meet us; and, we were treated with a level of respect that didnít seem possible just 5-6 years ago when we seemed to be looked upon as just another group of lobbyists!
The Annual X-Rated Film Critics Organization (XRCO) held their annual awards event in Century City, complete with limos, red carpets, media, and a fun time. Adult Starlet Jewels Jade, a San Diego resident, carpooled with me for the three-hour drive to the event. Making two stops for coffee-to-go, it was interesting to notice how much the customers enjoyed the sight of the beautiful Jewels who, like attendees at the Academy Awards, was dressed revealingly sexy.
The XRCO annual awards show is an opportunity for "insiders" to relax, dance, chat, and have fun. Nominated for the 2001 Unsung Swordsman Award, I felt honored just to be in the same company as the other four nominees; hence, when my name was announced as the award winner and I had to go on stage and accept the award, I didnít even have a mentally prepared acceptance speech in mind, so I "winged" it and remarked briefly from my heart commenting about how we all need to be thankful to our troops overseas who were fighting terrorists and keeping America free so that those of us at the XRCO Awards Show had the freedom to make adult films for the American People and the world.
Shooting "Screw My Wife, Please, Vol 27" last month was an absolute delight. As always, I totally enjoyed working for Bobby Rinaldi and Wildlife Productions. Professionalism and fun always abounds on their sets. In fact, just a few days ago, I was a judge for Wildlifeís 2002 Anal Contest where Catalina, Nellie Pierce, Jewels Jade, Flick Shagwell, and Ashley Morgan represented the female contestants, and Bret Rockman, Tyce Buné, Dillion, Nico Knight, and Marty Romano were the male contestants. Ron Jeremy was the Master of Ceremony, and Simone Claire was the Trophy Girl. Talent was pared up based upon names drawn out of a hat while the cameras rolled. AVN Award winners (multiple times) Cameramen Jake Jacobs and Barry Wood did a super job of capturing the action orchestrated by Director Bobby Rinaldi, in front of an audience of 35+ spectators.
The action was hot and spirited, and contestants were rooting and applauding for each other---a great show of sportsmanship and professionalism! The two make-up professionals did a super job of presenting the female contestants, the catering was absolutely phenomenal, and the stills/box-cover photographer was a real pro. During lulls between the five sex scenes, Ron and Simone paired up for sex, I got to get some on-camera action from four of the five girls, and spontaneous mini-orgies sprang up a few times. All in all, another fun Wildlife production. After all the hot sex scenes were completed, Judges Sindee Coxx, Mark Kernes, Henri Pachard, and I huddled to tally up our score sheets and report the winners to Director Bobby Rinaldi. Winners received a significant monetary prize, and the honor of being recognized by their peers and associates. Check out the video when itís released (see Wildlifexxx.com to monitor a release date announcement) to see who won! Again, I applaud all the contestants for their performances, as well as their professionalism and sportsmanship.
Remember the troops who are overseas defending our freedoms; enjoy sex as a natural and normal part of life on this planet; and start accumulating information so that you can cast an informed vote in the coming elections.
