Phil Harvey To Give Keynote

(VAN NUYS, CA) -- Phil Harvey, President of Adam and Eve, will be giving the keynote address at the Free Speech Coalition annual meeting held in Van Nuys, California on Tuesday, November 13th. Among many topics, Phil Harvey will also discuss his recent book, The Government vs. Erotica, released and distributed by Prometheus Books. The Government vs. Erotica is the telling story of Phil Harvey's fight, and victory over our government's efforts to silence its freedom of expression. The book discusses vividly the raid by thirty-seven armed law enforcement agents who instantly shut down all operations, herded the employees into a warehouse, and systematically interrogated all of them, by an act implemented by the U.S Department of Justice against Adam and Eve. This memoir of an eight-year struggle against our Justice Department provides detailed account of the inner workings of the legal process, and of the feisty owners and managers of a small company determined to stand up for their rights, and for the rights of all Americans.
Phil Harvey, creator of the nation's leading adult products catalog, began to work on a simple university project in 1969 - the selling of condoms by mail - which quickly evolved into a $90 million empire known today as Adam & Eve. The company officially started in 1970 as the nation's first contraceptive mail order business. Founded by Phil Harvey and Dr. Tim Black, the company became a thriving business leader in promoting birth control services through non-medical channels. With the public's overwhelmingly positive reaction to condoms-by-mail, Harvey investigated a way to provide American adults with a way to purchase sex-positive materials discreetly through the mail. Thus, Adam & Eve was born.
