Internet Safety Month Brings Together ASACP and Adult Industry To Launch "Restricted-To-Adults" Labeling System for Websites To Filter Age-Inappropriate Content

On Friday, June 22, 2007, at Erotica LA Convention, Los Angeles Convention Center, Room 304-C at 3:30pm was a press conference discussing the RTA labeling system.

Scheduled to attend were Joan Irvine, Executive Director, Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP), Greg Piccionelli, Attorney and Free Speech Advocate, Karen Stagliano, Adult Entertainment Producer / Actress & Mother, Diane C. Duke, Executive Director, Free Speech Coalition, Stormy Daniels, Adult Film Star, Paul Fishbein, President of AVN Media Network, Alec Helmy, President of XBiz.

Press conference was at 3:30pm with panel participants – Joan unveiled the new RTA rating system, with panel attendees giving perspective from the legal profession, free speech advocates and adult industry professionals/businesspeople.

June is Internet Safety Month, designed to foster public awareness of the need for online safety in the United States. As a result, for the first time, an unprecedented coalition of companies from the adult entertainment industry, free speech advocates and internet filtering software companies have been assembled by the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) to create the RTA, or "Restricted To Adults," website label to better enable parental filtering and to underscore the online adult industry’s commitment to child protection and self-regulation, helping parents prevent children from viewing and accessing web-based age-inappropriate content.

The industry coalition and support of the RTA label is a direct response to the federal mandates of U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales’ Child Pornography and Obscenity Prevention Amendments of 2006 and the Senate Commerce Committee hearings, which included a requirement that adult webmasters place Meta tags in the headers of every page on their site or face federal prosecution.

More information about the RTA Meta tag and the program can be found at www.RTALabel.org.

One-On-One Interviews with Panel Participants were available immediately after the press conference!
